VERNON, CT, — Beginning this week, the Cornerstone Foundation in Vernon will begin distributing diapers to families in need through its newest initiative, "Bundles of Hope."
The program coincides with the ninth-annual National Diaper Need Awareness Week, which runs from Sept. 21 through Sept. 27.
For about four decades, Cornerstone has assisted area residents with their basic needs like food, clothing and shelter.
Partnering with the Diaper Bank of CT, Cornerstone can now enroll families for their short-term diaper needs.
"Cornerstone's goal in opening this diaper bank is to be able to help local families to get through the month and be able to help get clean diapers to all babies," said Jenn Kirchmeier, Cornerstone's case manger who is serving as director of the diaper bank.
Cornerstone Executive Director Sharon Redfern said, "Having the Ddiaper bank is another way that Cornerstone can help people struggling financially. Programs like SNAP and WIC do not cover diapers so families can find it difficult to get them when needed."
Diapers from the "Bundles of Hope" Diaper Bank will be available on the first and third
week of the month, on Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to noon and and on Wednesdays from 10 a.mm to 2 p.m. for scheduled pick-ups. It will be located at Cornerstone's "New Hope House" on 93 East Main St.
Enrollment is required by texting "DIAPER" to 860-336-9824 or you by sending an email to: Jenn.Kirchmeier@Cornerstone-Cares.org.
