GREENWICH — The local nonprofit Mothers for Others, the largest independent diaper bank in lower Fairfield County, announced that Elizabeth Cook Peyton is its new executive director.
Mothers for Others supports underserved families by providing diapers and wipes for children from birth to age 3.
Peyton has volunteered with Greenwich-based MFO since April 2019, first in the donation room and then as a member of the board of directors.
Peyton took over the role from Lisa Leavy, who had been serving as executive director and president of the board. Leavy first became involved with MFO in 2011 and became president in 2017. She will remain closely involved in MFO as a board member.
“Thanks to Lisa’s commitment, passion and expertise, Mothers for Others is stronger than ever,” said Peyton. “I am eager to build on the momentum we’ve established, and continue to evolve the organization and drive it forward.”
At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, the volunteer-run MFO adapted its distribution model to ensure uninterrupted service for vulnerable community members while adhering to local and state guidelines.
“Over the last year, we’ve observed a tremendous increase in the demand for diapers, but the modification of our service model, as well as continued community support, has put us in a position to grow our operations and serve more families,” said Leavy. “With Elizabeth in the role of executive director, MFO will continue this growth and ensure we are effectively responding to the needs of our community.”
Peyton’s background in the nonprofit sector includes tenures as the development director at the Port Chester Carver Center, president of the Junior League of Greenwich, and most recently as principal at Peyton Consulting, which provides strategic support to nonprofit organizations.
This year, MFO celebrates its 10th year of serving the lower Fairfield County community. Since Karen Giannuzzi founded MFO, it has supported hundreds of families in keeping their children clean, safe and healthy.
In 2020, Mothers for Others distributed over 78,000 diapers through its community partners. To learn more, visit www.mothersforothers.org.
Parsonage Cottage to hold second annual ‘Tee Party’
The Parsonage Cottage Junior Advisory Board will host its second annual “Tee Party” at the Parsonage Cottage Senior Residence on Sunday, June 13.
Registration is open at www.parsonagecottage.org. The event was a success in 2019 but was canceled last year due to COVID-19.
The mini-golf tournament will be played on a custom course set up on the grounds of Parsonage Cottage, 88 Parsonage Road. Check-in begins at 11 a.m. June 13 for 18 holes of miniature golf. There will be two rounds: the first tee time at 11:30 and the second tee time at 12:15. Prizes will be awarded for Best Round, Best Team Attire and Hole in One.
The cost is $100 for a foursome, with spirited team attire and team names recommended. Additional options include a Hole Sponsor for $300 and a Tee Party Event Sponsor at $1,000. Parsonage Cottage is also accepting monetary and prize donations.
Player registration includes lunch provided by Walter’s Hot Dog Truck and Gofer Ice Cream, soft drinks and beer. Music will be provided by DJ.
In 2019, the then-newly formed Junior Advisory Board kicked off the summer with the first Tee Party, which was enjoyed by young and old alike. The event raised funds and awareness of the critical services provided to the elderly at Parsonage Cottage. Over 130 Greenwich residents and 27 corporate and family sponsors gathered for two hours of fun.
“We are really looking forward to being outside again and welcoming supporters to play mini-golf. The residents truly enjoy watching the grounds abuzz with excitement and young people,” Executive Director Penny Lore said. “We are so grateful to our Junior Advisory Board and their commitment to supporting Parsonage Cottage and our efforts to provide a full spectrum of enriching services and activities to the residents.”
A group of Greenwich Country Day School rising eighth-graders will also help with the event.
