Deshaun Watson has seen a lot of support from teammates, former Texans and analysts throughout the NFL community in recent days. The quarterback has been put through the wringer in many senses as a Houston Texan, and the latest is that he's reportedly very unhappy with the way the team went about hiring general manager Nick Caserio without his input.
One such showing of support came from all-time Texans great Andre Johnson, who simultaneously backed Watson and ripped Jack Easterby in a tweet.
Super Bowl winning coach Dick Vermeil, on the other hand, disagrees with Johnson's sentiment and thinks that the 25-year-old Watson should stand down.
"Nowhere in his contract does it say that he's involved in making the decisions of who coaches or who leads the organization," Vermeil told TMZ Sports. "He's a great NFL football player and always has been a great kid, but I think he just shuts his mouth and becomes a better football player and lead the football team and let the leaders of the organization lead him."
Vermeil didn't go so far as to call him a whining baby... well actually, he did. When asked about how the Texans should handle the ever-building tension with their franchise core, Vermeil said that he thinks Houston should "change his diapers."
Still, Vermeil doesn't see him playing for another team anytime soon. And while Vermeil and Dabo Swinney agree on the sentiment that Watson will stay in Houston, Swinney was significantly more supportive of Watson's case.
"Deshaun is incredibly loyal, incredibly committed, incredibly smart, incredibly passionate about winning," Swinney told SportsRadio610 in Houston. "The biggest thing is, he's the franchise. And he's such a great human being to go along with being a great quarterback. So I would think they are going to figure out who is going to be the coach and certainly I would think he's going to be involved in that, or at least communicated with."
But don't expect the trade talks to stop. He might not be seen as a realistically movable asset, but it's not stopping hungry fan bases from envisioning Deshaun Watson in their near future.
