Marin City’s Performing Stars expanded its partnership with a nonprofit diaper bank in Oakland to provide relief to 100 families struggling in the pandemic.
Performing Stars founder Felecia Gaston reached out to Help a Mother Out, a nonprofit that provides families in need with diapers, to secure 30,000 diapers and wipes for families at Bayside Martin Luther King Jr. Academy on Tuesday.
Gaston said people in the community have asked for help paying for baby necessities, which average about $25 per box.
“A child goes through so many diapers a month,” she said. “You’re averaging $100 to $150 a month, maybe more because the younger they are the more go through diapers. So I’m proud that we were able to provide a resource for families to help relieve stress and anxiety for them.”
The nonprofit distributed about 21,000 diapers to 60 families in Southern Marin in July.
