PITTSFORD, N.Y. — The Green Angels held a Diaper Drive on Sunday to assist local families struggling because of the coronavirus pandemic.
Victoria Chodos organized the diaper drive to get the community to pitch in with diapers, creams, and wipes.
"People have lost jobs, still not able to buy the diapers that they need so our organization has had a huge increase in demand so it's really been important because they are very much needed right now," said Chodos.
They got quick results.
"We just started and look how many diapers we have. I just can't thank my family and friends enough. I have friends that have sent diapers all the way from Atlanta to Chicago," said Chodos.
Sarah Viggiani, the development director, says this Diaper Drive is just one part of the Green Angels organization's mission to help single mothers get back on their feet after they have left relationships with domestic abuse.
"We've provided the essentials for them to go back to school with backpacks and again this diaper drive is so key. A lot of things are not supported. Some organizations can't support the families that are calling in with these needs, and today especially has been wonderful so we can help be their life line when they are in need," Viggiani explained.
While the Green Angels aim to distribute these donations as soon as possible to families in the Rochester area, Chodos points out the need is still there.
"It's such a small thing we take for granted for sometimes and it's so needed so if people can consider giving to different organizations that ask for diapers. It's really important," said Chodos.
