TAMPA, Fla. – The Junior League of Tampa Diaper Bank is aiming to raise $20,000 and thousands more diapers in celebration of National Diaper Need Awareness Week, which spans from September 21-27.
The Junior League of Tampa Diaper Bank serves to combat diaper needs within Hillsborough County by supplying diapers to programs in the Tampa Bay area community. Diaper Need is the lack of a sufficient supply of diapers to keep a baby clean, dry and healthy.
GIVE TO THE JUNIOR LEAGUE OF TAMPA DIAPER BANK
The Diaper Bank collects child and adult-sized diapers from individuals as well as purchases diapers in bulk to supply to partners.
Diapers cannot be obtained with food stamps, according to Caroline Foss with the Junior League of Tampa Diaper Bank. Disposable diapers cost $70 to $80 per month per baby and are required to send a child to daycare.
"It might seem like a small thing, but when they have to make choices of what products to provide their family or to get food or gas for their car, these are really serious choices," Foss said.
DIAPER NEED FACTS
- 5.2 million children in the U.S. aged three or younger live in poor or low-income families.
- 1 in 3 American families report experiencing diaper need.
- No state or federal child safety-net program allocates dollars specifically for the purchase of diapers.
- Without transportation, buying diapers at a convenience store rather than a large “big box” store can significantly increase the monthly cost of diapers.
- Infants require up to 12 diapers per day, toddlers about 8.
The Junior League of Tampa Diaper Bank distributes diapers through community organizations. However, the JLT does not distribute diapers directly to individuals or families.
