In honor of National Diaper Need Awareness Week, the Junior League of Daytona Beach seeks to collect 10,000 diapers for families in need.
The nonprofit organization will accept donations for its diaper drive from now through Sept. 27.
The Junior League of Daytona Beach wants to provide families with enough diapers to keep babies clean, dry, and healthy. Many families struggle to afford these items due to poverty or unexpected life hardships.
"We wanted to do this because the need is so great in our area and families cannot use food stamps or other government assistance to get diapers," said Erika Binford, chair of the Junior League of Daytona Diaper Bank. Binford also works as a teacher at Hinson Middle School in Daytona Beach.
The Junior League of Daytona Beach is the only diaper bank in the greater Daytona Beach area, and has donated more than 300,000 diapers within the last two years, a news release said. The organization partners with other local nonprofits to distribute diapers and wipes to families in need.
The Junior League of Daytona Beach plans to distribute the items collected during the ongoing diaper drive sometime in October.
For those who want to help with the campaign, diapers can be ordered through Amazon or other online sources and sent to the Junior League of Daytona Beach. Diapers can also be dropped off at the Junior League of Daytona Beach Thrift Store on 122 S. Palmetto Ave. from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday.
