PARMA HEIGHTS, Ohio – St. John Bosco Parish in Parma Heights will host a “Stuff the Truck” diaper drive noon to 3 p.m. Sept. 26 in the parish parking lot. Those planning to make a donation are asked to enter the parking lot off Pearl Road and exit to the Cleveland Metroparks behind the parish grounds. Traffic cones and volunteers will help guide donor through the parking lot. The church is at 6480 Pearl Road, Parma Heights.
The diaper drive is being conducted by the Diaper Bank of Greater Cleveland. According to Nakeisha Wells of the Diaper Bank, one in three families in Cuyahoga County struggle to provide/afford diapers for their children. Until May 2019, there was no diaper bank in the county. Nationwide, more than 200 diaper banks were operating and there were eight in other parts of Ohio.
Wells decided something needed to be done in Cuyahoga County, so she worked to establish the Diaper Bank of Greater Cleveland. Volunteers sort, wrap and count diaper bundles that are distributed monthly to families in need who register with social service agencies.
While there are programs to cover food for families in need, no such programs exist to provide diapers, which can force families to make difficult decisions.
In addition to diapers, wipes, formula and baby food also will be accepted at the drive-thru event on Sept. 26. Pull-ups are among the most-needed diapers.
Donors need not leave their cars because volunteers will take donations from the trunk or back seat of their vehicles. Volunteers will be wearing masks and gloves to help ensure everyone remains safe during the coronavirus pandemic.
The Rev. Matt Byrne, administrator of St. John Bosco, gave his blessing to the event.
That’s a wrap: Brooklyn resident Matthew Emery, a 2020 graduate of Canisius College in Buffalo, New York, was among more than 200 students to participate in and complete a summer internship programs as part of his academic studies.

At Canisius, the Griff Center for Student Success supports professional internship programs that focus on quality, engagement and professionalism. The Griff Center works as a liaison with local and national employers to provide students with professional learning experiences outside of the classroom, so that students may apply what they’re learning in the classroom and make connections in professional fields they are considering for career paths.
